Gradall Forklift Parts - The Gradall excavator was the brainchild of two brothers Koop and ray Ferwerda. The excavator was founded In the 1940's throughout World War II, when there was a scarcity of workers. The brothers faced the problems of a depleted labor force because of the war. As partners in their Cleveland, Corpus Christi construction company called Ferwerda-Werba-Ferwerda they lacked the existing workers so as to carry out the delicate tasks of finishing and grading on their highway projects. The Ferwerda brothers opted to build an equipment which would save their business by making the slope grading task more efficient, less manual and easier.
Their first design prototype was a machine with two beams set on a rotating platform that was affixed on top of a second-hand truck. A telescopic cylinder moved the beams back and forth which allowed the fixed blade at the end of the beams to pull or push dirt. Soon improving the initial design, the brothers made a triangular boom to add more strength. Additionally, they added a tilt cylinder which let the boom rotate 45 degrees in both directions. A cylinder was placed at the rear of the boom, powering a long push rod to enable the machine to be equipped with either a bucket or a blade attachment.
Gradall launched in the year 1992, with the introduction of the new XL Series hydraulics, the most innovative adjustment in their machinery since their creation. This new system of top-of-the-line hydraulics enabled the Gradall excavator to provide high productivity and comparable power to the more traditional excavators. The XL Series put an end to the initial Gradall equipment power drawn from low pressure hydraulics and gear pumps. These traditional systems successfully handled grading and finishing work but had a hard time competing for high productivity work.
The new XL Series Gradall excavators proved a remarkable increase in their digging and lifting ability. These models were manufactured together with a piston pump, high-pressure hydraulics system which showed huge improvements in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was even developed together with a load-sensing capability. Conventional excavators use an operator to pick a working-mode; where the Gradall system could automatically adjust the hydraulic power intended for the job at hand. This makes the operator's overall task easier and likewise conserves fuel simultaneously.
As soon as the new XL Series hydraulics reached the market, Gradall was thrust into the vastly competitive industrial equipment market that are designed to deal with demolition, pavement removal, excavating and various industrial tasks. The introduction of the new telescoping boom helped to further improve the excavator's marketability. The telescoping boom gives the excavator the ability to work in low overhead areas and to better position attachments.
